The easy way is the Contact page in the app (the last item in the sidebar). It shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone and it opens an email to us, already filled in with your app and tvOS versions, the Apple TV model, the kind of network, your HDR settings and your last Report a Problem codes. You can read and change it before you send it. The app sends nothing itself.

How do I add a location?

Open All Locations and choose Add Location. Pick the kind of server, enter its address and sign-in, and test the connection before you save it. Add Location groups the kinds into File Servers, Media Servers and Cloud & Homelab. Astrape looks for new and removed videos each time it opens, without opening any file.

Which servers does Astrape work with?
  • File servers: SMB, NFS, FTP, FTPS, SFTP, WebDAV, and web servers that show a directory listing.
  • Object storage: S3-compatible storage (Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, MinIO).
  • Media servers you run yourself: Plex, Jellyfin and Emby.
  • Cloud and home servers: Nextcloud, and other WebDAV services such as ownCloud.

Streams holds live channels from your own server and IPTV streams. Astrape plays MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI and MPEG-TS files.

How do the free trial and the unlock work?

Everything in Astrape works for 7 days from the moment you start the trial. After that, playing videos needs Astrape Full Unlock, a one-time purchase. There is no subscription. The trial does not renew, and nothing is charged when it ends.

Your library, locations and settings stay, and you can still browse them. The trial and the unlock follow your Apple Account, so a new Apple TV, or deleting and reinstalling the app, does not start a new week. You can start the trial, buy the unlock or restore a purchase in Settings, Purchase, Astrape Full Unlock.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open Settings, Purchase, Astrape Full Unlock, and choose Restore Purchases. Sign in to the Apple TV with the Apple Account that made the purchase. If Astrape says it found no purchase for this Apple Account, you are signed in with a different one.

What is the Web Remote?

The Web Remote lets a phone or computer on the same network send a video address to your Apple TV. Open the Web Remote screen in the app and scan the code with the phone. Turn it on or off, and set the port and a PIN, in Settings. A PIN is 4 to 32 letters or digits. Until you set one, anyone on your network can use it. It stays on your local network. A Mac companion is planned.

A video will not play. What can I do?

While the video is open, or in Media Info, choose Report a Problem. It shows exactly what it sends before you press Send, and it holds no file names or free text. You can also write to us and include what the Apple TV and the file are.

How do I turn off the online lookup?

Open Settings, Privacy, and turn off Metadata Online Lookup. Nothing is looked up after that. You can also leave out one location or some of its folders. The privacy policy says what is sent.
